On August 2, good news came from key wind turbine users. The first domestically produced 16MW offshore wind turbine unit in mass production, supplied by Luoyang Bearing, withstood the first super typhoon "Gemei" in 2024, with a maximum wind force of 17 and a maximum wind speed of 48 meters per second. This helped the offshore wind turbines to operate safely and stably, and smoothly pass the "big test" of the super typhoon.
On June 27, the first batch of 16MW offshore wind turbines in China, all using LUO 16MW main shaft bearings, were connected to the grid in the second phase of Liuao offshore wind farm in Zhangpu, Fujian. The GWH252-16MW units used in this project were awarded the title of "Top Ten National Heavy Equipment" by the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission. In the first month of operation, the first super typhoon "Gemi" in 2024 hit, with the maximum wind force near the center reaching level 17 and the maximum wind speed of about 48 meters per second, which is about 173.28 kilometers per hour. The kinetic energy generated can throw a 20-ton gasoline tank to a height of more than 80 meters and cause huge waves over 5 meters high, which has put a severe test on the safe and stable operation of offshore wind farms. In the face of this super typhoon, the main shaft bearings of LUO with excellent product quality have helped the main engine manufacturers and owners to complete various tasks, maintain a safe state throughout the process, achieve zero-failure safe operation, and smoothly pass the "big test" of the super typhoon.
It is understood that at this wind farm, at the end of July 2023, the world's first 16MW unit equipped by Luoyang Bearing experienced the impact of the super typhoon "Dusurui" just over 10 days after being connected to the grid. After successfully passing the typhoon "extra test" during the test period, this time it completed the "typhoon resistance" verification of the super typhoon "Gemei", once again demonstrating the excellent product quality of Luoyang Bearing's high-power wind turbine spindle bearings.
Offshore wind power is the "main battlefield" for the future development of the wind power industry, and typhoon-resistant technology is becoming the "ballast stone" to enhance the adaptability of units to the marine environment and consolidate the sustainable development of offshore wind power. Luoyang Bearing will give full play to its industry-leading advantages in the research and development of wind turbine bearings, adhere to independent innovation, continue to strengthen close cooperation with OEMs and owners, and strive to use more technical accumulation and successful practices to provide more efficient, reliable and "trustworthy" products and services to help China's wind power move deeper and farther into the sea.
