Representatives for Alexei Navalny said Thursday that traces of the Novichok nerve agent were found on at least one water bottle in the Kremlin critic’s hotel room in Siberia.
In an Instagram post, Navalny’s team shared video of them gathering items from his hotel room after the poisoning while wearing protective equipment, including several water bottles. A caption accompanying the video indicated that a German lab had confirmed the presence of Novichok on at least one bottle.
“This is a bottle from a room in a Tomsk hotel where Navalny himself and our entire film crew stayed,” reads the translated caption. “The so-called ‘bottle with Novichok,’ well, or rather, an ordinary plastic bottle from under water, on which traces of a chemical warfare agent were later found in a German laboratory.”

French and Swedish labs have confirmed Navalny was poisoned with Novichok, while Russian officials have deflected, claiming that Navalny fell ill on a flight from Russia to Germany.
“The perfect action of pilots, ambulance crew and doctors is being presented as a ‘happy coincidence,’” said Sergei Lavrov, Russia’s foreign minister.
“They dare to question the professionalism of our doctors, our investigators,” he added. “Arrogance and a sense of one’s own infallibility have been seen in Europe before, and the consequences were very sad.”
