Bernard Foley set to start Bledisloe Test in Melbourne

Bernard Foley will make a remarkable return to the Wallabies set-up, set to be named at flyhalf for Thursday's Bledisloe Cup opener against the All Blacks.The move comes with Wallabies officials confirming Noah Lolesio has been ruled out after suffering a concussion during last week's defeat to the Springboks in Sydney.Click here to purchase your tickets for the Bledisloe CupThe 33-year-old last pulled on the gold jersey at the 2019 Rugby World Cup, remaining in Japan after their quarter-final exit to England."I’d always hoped and thought about it but I never thought the opportunity would come up again, especially leaving and going overseas knowing the eligibility had the ability to change, I had to be content with not getting the opportunity again when I left in 2019," Foley said in August.“To now get the opportunity to be back in the squad and wear the colours, I’m pretty grateful and excited to get that second opportunity.”Foley was brought in for the South Africa series, replacing Quade Cooper (knee) and James O'Connor, who suffered a suspected sprained ankle on Sunday after being left out of the Bledisloe squad.His presence has impressed Wallabies assistant Dan McKellar, stepping up with Lolesio and Hunter Paisami still recovering from their respective head knocks.“There’s a number of good options there but Bernard has been a good fit,” assistant coach Dan McKellar said on Wednesday.“Really enjoyed meeting him and getting to know him, he’s a good team man and he’s helped us prepare really well since he’s been back.”It comes exactly a year and a day after Cooper made a similar comeback in a famous victory over the Springboks, which Foley is using as inspiration."Definitely, I was really impressed how he came back in and just the experience and the composure he was able to add to the side," the 71-Test veteran said."You saw pretty much all the players around him lift and grow in stature and confidence by having that experience and that voice and calmness next to them, directing the team around. "His influence and effect on the team has been massive and it's sad to see his injury … that opportunity falls on me now."McKellar also confirmed Taniela Tupou remains a chance to feature, still recovering from a calf injury suffered whilst warming up in Sydney.Click Here: Sadio Mane Jersey Sale
