Lille have made a €25m offer to Gent for Jonathan David

Ligue 1 side Lille have in recent days submitted a €25m bid to Gent to sign 20-year-old Canadian international attacker Jonathan David, according to L’Équipe.

After losing Loïc Rémy to Benevento and being in the process of seeing Nigerian international Victor Osimhen depart, Les Dogues have moved quickly to replace them, targeting Fluminense striker Marcos Paulo and Gent’s Jonathan David as priorities.

Talks for the latter appear to be the more advanced at this stage, with LOSC having put in a formal offer for David.

Gent have neither accepted nor rejected the offer as it currently stands, hoping to incite a bidding war, with a lot of Premier League interest out there for a player under contract with them until 2023. The Belgian media suggest that Gent want to hit €30m or €35m as an eventual sale price.

With a lot of interest in the versatile attacker from the Premier League and Bundesliga, Lille know that they need to move fast. However, although David likes German football, he is convinced about making a move to Lille, per the outlet.
