As we noted earlier today, Matt Hardy Tweeted a photo of him with Anthem Sports and Entertainment’s Ed Nordholm and Hardy noted all was “copasetic” between the two sides.
According to Pro Wrestling Sheet, Hardy and Anthem have worked out a deal which has resulted in The Hardy Boyz acquiring full ownership and rights to the Broken Universe gimmick and everything the gimmick entails.
Matt Hardy and Anthem have agree mutually that The Hardys are now free to use the Broken gimmick anywhere outside of Impact Wrestling, however details of the agreement remain unclear.
With regards to the use of Matt Hardy’s “Woken” character in WWE, while unconfirmed, my guess is WWE’s decision to have Matt use that version of the character is unrelated to the legal battle for the Broken gimmick. WWE typically likes to own all of its wrestler gimmicks, names and likenesses, and with Matt Hardy owning the Broken gimmick, WWE making him “Woken” on Raw is likely so WWE can own that name and potentially trademark it themselves.
Hardy posted the following in-character caption to his Twitter photo:
“I am thrilled to PROCLAIM that we have ACQUIRED new ALLIES on our side of #TheGreatWar.”
Adding, “Ed Nordholm & The Owl of Anthem have revealed themselves as MAJESTIC beings who stand on the side of the LIGHT. The LIGHT always EMERGES, #WOKENWarriors. Everything is COPASETIC & WONDERFUL!”
