Mauricio Pochettino: “We try to prepare to dominate the match.”

Speaking to RMC Sport, PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino offered his pre-match thoughts ahead of tonight’s clash with Bayern Munich. Les Parisiens lead 3-2 on aggregate after a victory at the Allianz Arena.

“It will be completely different this time. Each match has its own complexity. We need to have a great match if we want to go to the semi-finals. The team is good, we really want to qualify… We try to prepare to dominate the match, but that is not always possible. We know that Bayern are a great team… We need to make a distinction between efforts and chances. We had more big chances than Bayern, everything depends on things like that.”

On choosing to start Leandro Paredes:

Against Barcelona in the 1st half, we only had 30% (possession) here. We need to be a collective. It is important the players have the capacity to manage the match, the tempo.

On Marco Verratti not starting:

For this sort of decision, it is certainly linked to the medical side of things. He is coming back from COVID, he had some symptoms that affected him. In terms of his physical condition, we are a little in unknown territory and he is lacking a bit of rhythm. I hope that we will be able to play him, if needed in the middle of the match. We will no doubt need his help.
