Ligue 1 side Nantes have registered an interest in 29-year-old attacking midfield player Gaston Ramirez, according to 20 Minutes.
The Middlesbrough man is seen as surplus to requirements by the Championship side who are looking to restructure following their recent relegation from the Premier League.
Approaches have been made by Les Canaris, but talks are not at an advanced stage yet for a man whose current contract expires in 2019.
