Officials arrest man who allegedly attacked officers with a metal rod during Capitol riot

Authorities have arrested a man who allegedly attacked officers with a metal rod during the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol, according to the Department of Justice. 

Authorities arrested Michael Leon Brock of Walls, Miss., on Tuesday and charged him with assaulting, resisting or impeding certain officers and obstruction of law enforcement during civil disorder, according to the Justice Department statement.

According to the DOJ, body camera footage from a Capitol officer shows Brock at the Upper West Terrace of the Capitol building charging at officers with a 4-foot rod, allegedly striking and pushing the officers back during the altercation.

This comes as federal authorities have arrested 535 people who were involved in the insurrection at the Capitol that left five people dead, including a Capitol police officer.

One hundred and sixty-five people have been charged with assaulting or impeding law enforcement, according to the DOJ. 

The case is prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia and the Department of Justice National Security Division’s Counterterrorism Section.

The investigation is still ongoing.
