As per this morning’s L’Équipe, PSG have informed French football’s strict financial watchdog (DNCG) they hope to recoup around €180m in player sales in order to compensate for a deficit of between €250m and €300m.
As a result Sergio Rico, Alphonse Areola, Rafinha, Layvin Kurzawa, Thilo Kehrer, Ander Herrera and Pablo Sarabia could all join Mitchell Bakker, who signed with Bayer Leverkusen for €7m this summer, in leaving the club in order to fill the deficit and help pay for any further major moves – such as for Paul Pogba or Eduardo Camavinga.
Although Leonardo has often struggled to sell players on effectively as PSG sporting director, he is currently battling against the lofty wages paid generally by the Paris club, making it difficult for other sides to match player salary demands, and even the pleasant Parisian lifestyle.
The next few weeks will be interesting ones for PSG and Leonardo. His first option is likely to be Sarabia say L’Équipe after an impressive EURO 2020 for Spain. Mauro Icardi has also been linked with a return to Italy this summer.
