Report: Joey Styles Released From WWE, Comments About Reigns The Reason?

It looks like Ryback wasn’t the only recognizable talent to part ways with WWE recently.

Ryan Satin of ProWrestlingSheet.com is reporting that Joey Styles has been released from WWE at some point in the recent past. The actual date of his WWE release is unclear, although it’s worth noting that his most recent tweet came on July 29th.

While it should be taken as strictly rumor until otherwise confirmed, Satin also reported at Pro Wrestling Sheet that Styles’ recent Facebook Q&A could have something to do with his release from WWE. Those who witnessed the Q&A noted that it was basically Styles’ version of a “shoot interview,” as he held nothing back.

It’s worth noting that the archive of the Q&A featuring Joey Styles has been deleted from both WWE’s official Facebook and YouTube pages.

Among the many criticisms of WWE that Styles made during the Facebook Q&A includes his feeling that the WWE Universal Championship is not a good name for WWE’s newest “World Title.” He also spoke openly and honestly about his dislike of the three-man announce team that WWE often uses on television and pay-per-views.

The biggest potential criticism came in the form of Styles’ unfiltered opinion on the push of Roman Reigns. As Styles explained during the Q&A (read below, courtesy of Uproxx.com), he is second-guessing Vince McMahon regarding his decision to push Reigns as the top star of the company. He also mentioned his belief that “Moms and Kids” are the ones who are fans of Reigns.

“Bottom line is, if our chairman thinks he sees a future star as a babyface, that’s how things are gonna play out … But the answer is Vince thinks it can work. He’s been right much, much, much, much, much more than wrong over the course of the last 40 years. I’m sorry, but I’m not gonna second-guess the chairman.”

From there, Cathy Kelley, who moderated the Q&A and fielded questions from fans for Styles during the chat, noted that all of her female friends like Reigns. This prompted Styles to continue talking about the subject.

“That’s part of it: Moms are the ones who bring kids to shows. Kids like Roman Reigns. Moms like Roman Reigns. That’s the reason. Just because some people boo him doesn’t mean everyone doesn’t like him.”
