Hurricanes full-back Josh Moorby did incredibly well to score a stunning solo try in his side’s 23-12 loss to the Chiefs in Super Rugby Pacific.
The speedster received the ball on his 10-metre line with little space down the right-hand flank. Moorby pinned his ears back, but there was still enough covering defenders. He decided to kick the ball in behind and executed brilliantly in the poor conditions.

He then showed impressive pace to get the better of chasing defenders and dot the ball down.

Earlier in the game, the heavens opened as the rain bucketed down at FMG Stadium, and the Chiefs got a maul going in the sixth minute resulting in hooker Samisoni Taukei’aho crashing over. Damian McKenzie missed the kick on this occasion.

The scores would remain the same until the 23rd minute as the teams looked to navigate the conditions. Second-row Tupou Vaa’i was next on the scoresheet, with McKenzie missing again from the tee.
There would be no further points for the rest of the first half. Vaa’i was on the scoresheet again in the 47th minute with his fly-half, McKenzie, kicking the conversion on this occasion.
The Hurricanes were next to score on the hour mark through Moorby’s brilliance as Aidan Morgan missed the kick. McKenzie would respond five minutes later with a penalty before Braydon Iose intercepted a loose pass from the fly-half to cross for a converted Hurricanes try in the 67th minute.
The game was fairly close at that stage, but McKenzie put it out of reach with a penalty in the 71st minute.
The Chiefs held on and returned to winning ways to maintain their stronghold at the top of the table with two rounds of the regular season to go.
