WWE announces New Year's Day PPV for 2022

WWE will be kicking off 2022 with its first-ever New Year’s Day pay-per-view.

It was announced tonight that the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia will host a WWE PPV on Saturday, January 1, 2022. Tickets will go on sale at 10 a.m. Eastern time on Friday, August 27.

The announcement of the PPV was made by Atlanta Hawks star Trae Young during a video that aired at the Rolling Loud music festival in Miami, Florida tonight. Following her SmackDown Women’s Championship defense against Carmella on tonight’s SmackDown, Bianca Belair introduced Young’s video.

“State Farm Arena is a phenomenal venue with a long history of hosting world-class events,” said Scott Zanghellini, WWE Senior Vice President, Revenue Strategy & Development. “We’re excited to deliver this pay-per-view to the people of Atlanta and the many that travel to the city to celebrate New Year’s.”

The Friday, September 17 episode of SmackDown was originally supposed to take place at the State Farm Arena. But the day that tickets were set to go on sale to the general public, it was announced that the show was being moved. The episode is instead expected to take place in Knoxville, Tennessee.
