We are live in attendance at the TaxSlayer Center in Moline, IL for tonight’s WWE Live event featuring the Superstars of the Raw brand, as well as a one-hour special WWE Network broadcast entitled The Shield’s Final Chapter.

(1) CURT HAWKINS & ZACK RYDER (c) def. THE REVIVAL and ALEISTER BLACK & RICOCHET TO RETAIN THE RAW TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS
Excellent match. Black & Ricochet were a nice surprise as they weren’t on the other weekend Raw house shows. Anytime Black was in with The Revival they tore the house down. At one point he actually German suplexed both of them at the same time. The big spot of the match was a series of dives that took everyone to the floor, followed by Ricochet suplexing Dawson off the top rope into everyone. The finish saw The Revival hit the Shatter Machine on Ricochet and nearly won the match, but Hawkins cleared the ring and rolled him up to steal it.
(2) TONY NESE (c) def. BUDDY MURPHY TO RETAIN THE WWE CRUISERWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHSIP
I thought this was on par with their WrestleMania match, if not actually a bit better. It was different, in that they focussed less on the big, flashy moves and more on laying in a brutal series of strikes and kicks and just beating the stuffing out of each other. My favorite spot was Buddy reversing a superplex with a Sunset Flip, into the Cheeky Nandos Kick, into a huge sit-down powerbomb.
— In between matches they ran clips from throughout the history of The Shield. They even showed a few CM Punk clips, but Moline is nowhere near Chicago (thank god) so no obnoxious chants yet.
(3) JINDER MAHAL & THE SINGH BROTHERS vs. THE LUCHA BROTHERS ENDED IN A NO CONTEST
The kids in the crowd were really into Kalisto, and doing the fun lucha poses. It was kind of fun actually singing the Singh brothers wrestle, however briefly. The match ended with Baron Corbin, Bobby Lashley and Drew McIntyre running in and beating down the babyfaces. Corbin cut a promo saying that we just saw a glimpse of what they were going to do to The Shield later tonight. Tremendous heat for Corbin. Everyone hates that dude.
— It’s time for A Moment of Bliss! Alexa Bliss came out and talked about all the different celebrities she thought about bringing out to be her special guest, like Bradley Cooper, but in the end Moline, IL didn’t deserve that. Instead we got Lacey Evans, who talked about all the “nasties” in the crowd. Dana Brooke interrupted and got beaten down, followed by Nikki Cross making the save.
(4) ALEXA BLISS & LACEY EVANS def. DANA BROOKE & NIKKI CROSS
Quick match. Brooke and Cross couldn’t really get on the same page as each other, with Cross being certifiably insane. It came and went, and that was that. We were told they were taking a 15 minute intermission and to go buy limited edition Shield items at the merch stands that would be gone forever soon.
— With a few minutes left in the intermission the lights went out and they rolled a video package on the history of The Shield, leading into the WWE Network broadcast going live. Elias was already in the ring and did his usual spots including a loud “WHO WANTS TO WALK WITH ELIAS?” Finn Balor came out and the two were supposed to do a duet together, but Balor led the crowd in singing about how much Elias sucks.
(5) FINN BALOR (c) def. ELIAS TO RETAIN THE INTERCONTINENTAL CHAMPIONSHIP
Something that doesn’t always come across on television, that radiates off him at live events, is how much of a natural star Elias is. He’s just got that “it” factor you can’t manufacture that almost no one else on the roster has. It’s also easy to forget but the guy is big, absolutely jacked, and looks like “Macho Man” Randy Savage. I really liked his early intensity going after Balor before the match. Other than that, they had a pretty standard bout not unlike the ones we’ve seen a bunch of times before. It would have been fine for Raw or something. Balor retained with the Coup de Grace.

— Elias stayed in the ring after he was beaten and told the fans to shut up. He tried to sing another song but was interrupted by The Riott Squad, who are also doing a farewell tour this weekend. They joined him with some HORRENDOUS singing until they were mercifully interrupted by Ember Moon and Bayley. The ring announce said it was a 6-woman tag team match, so we all stood there waiting for another person, but it was just a normal tag.
(6) BAYLEY & EMBER MOON def. RUBY RIOTT & SARAH LOGAN
They had a pretty fun match, although I was a bit disappointed that I was seeing the Riott Squad possibly for the last time ever, and Liv Morgan didn’t even compete. Oh well. I don’t know how it came off on the Network but the crowd was pretty hot almost all the way through. Lots of chants for Bayley. Ember Moon looked great in all of her spots, and hit the Eclipse (which looks even cooler in person) to win.
— The Shield did an old school promo where the camera panned up from their feet to their faces, they introduced themselves one at a time, and said all their signature phrases. The heels all came out first and took turns cutting promos about how they were going to rid the world of The Shield and dominate the Raw roster after they were finally gone. Again, Corbin just radiates heat.
(7) THE SHIELD (ROMAN REIGNS, DEAN AMBROSE & SETH ROLLINS) def. BOBBY LASHLEY, BARON CORBIN & DREW MCINTYRE
All six guys came face-to-face and the fans couldn’t make up their minds on all the various chants before finally settling on “BURN IT DOWN!” The match was basically the same as the one they had at WWE Fastlane, but a bit more stripped down. That’s not a bad thing. In the end they all went through their signature spots, with Reigns spearing the hell out of Lashley, Ambrose hitting Dirty Deeds on Corbin, and Rollins hitting the Curb Stomp on McIntyre. They set up the Triple Powerbomb on Corbin, which the crowd loved, and the champion got the pin.
The fans chanted “THANK YOU AMBROSE!” and then got a loud “PLEASE DON’T GO!” chant going. Rollins talked about how he won the Universal Championship at WrestleMania and that victory wouldn’t have been possible without his Shield brothers, and he did it for them. He talked about growing up in the area and having friends and family in attendance, and his whole career coming full circle.
Ambrose got on the mic and went wild in a great, great promo. Honestly, one of the best he ever did in WWE. Ambrose told the crowd to look at the men in the ring, because The Shield were just like each and every one of them. If a kid growing up in Moline can become Universal Champion, and Roman Reigns can come back from Leukemia to be standing where they are, they you can do anything you set your mind to doing. The Shield stands for breaking doors down and proving others wrong. If someone tells you you can’t accomplish your dreams, you kick their door down, stick your middle finger in the air and tell them about The Shield. Believe that.
The show ended and The Shield hung around ringside for a few minutes taking photos with fans and signing some autographs, before posing on the entrance ramp together one final time. There was a cool moment where they went over to the ringside area and spent some time with the commentators. Roman gave Renee Young a huge hug, and Cole was laughing hysterically about something with them. It really was the “last time” for everyone out there.
