Ounahi was one of the standout performers in the Qatar World Cup. He was an essential element of the Atlas Lions’ midfield that reached the semi-final of the competition in December, becoming the first African side to reach that stage of the tournament in history.
Upon his return to Angers, there was an acceptance within the club that they wouldn’t be able to keep hold of Ounahi or international and club teammate Sofiane Boufal if bids arrived for the pair. Whilst the latter remains at Angers, the former has attracted a lot of interest, with reports linking him with a move to Leicester City, as well as Serie A side Napoli.
However, Ounahi now looks set to stay in France and join Ligue 1 rivals Marseille. The club have announced an agreement in principle to sign the Moroccan international. He will join on a permanent transfer when personal terms are agreed, and a medical completed. The fee has not been disclosed.
Mohamed Bouhafsi is reporting that Ounahi will be in attendance at the Stade Vélodrome tonight when Marseille take on AS Monaco before undergoing his medical tomorrow.
