Why Kane Deserves His Spot In The Royal Rumble Universal Championship Match

This year’s Royal Rumble event will see three of WWE’s biggest monsters compete for the coveted Universal Championship, when Champion Brock Lesnar defends his gold in a Triple Threat match against Braun Strowman and Kane. While this monstrous main event had been rumored for quite some time, it was made official on RAW by General Manager Kurt Angle. But it has since become quite a topic of debate among the WWE Universe – and the main reason for that is down to the match’s inclusion of Kane.

Kane has been a regular presence in WWE for over two decades. In that time, the Big Red Machine has gone on to become one of the company’s most legendary superstars. However, given some of his previous storylines and his age, some fans are reluctant to see him headlining one of WWE’s “Big Four” PPVs in 2018. On the other hand, others are thrilled to see the selfless superstar receiving a well-earned moment in the spotlight.

So, with all that in mind, let’s take a look at why the Devil’s Favorite Demon definitely deserves his spot in the Royal Rumble main event.

His Legendary Status

Above all else, Kane is one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time. The Big Red Monster’s legendary debut in 1997 has gone down as arguably the greatest debut of all time, and his connection to The Undertaker’s origins instantly allowed him to become one of the best characters in WWE history. However, Kane’s legacy extends far beyond his introduction. While he did indeed have his most successful year between 1997 and 1998, he was involved in countless memorable moments and matches in the years that followed.

Moreover, while others have come and gone over the years, Kane has remained on WWE TV almost full-time. In fact, over the past twenty years, it’s almost impossible to recall a time when the character wasn’t featured on WWE Programming. And the reason for that is quite simply because he was always there. While there have been a few periods over his two-decade-long career in which he took time off, extensive absences from Kane were a very rare occurrence.

So, while some of the WWE Universe may choose to appreciate greats like The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin who shone brighter than most for a short period before their departures, it’s important that we also honor Kane – who remained with the company at all times.

Thus, there really isn’t a question of whether or not Kane deserves a title shot, there’s only one definitive answer: Yes. After spending so long with the company and providing the WWE Universe with countless iconic moments during his legendary career, he deserves to be rewarded with a spot in the Universal Championship match.

His Selflessness Should Be Rewarded

While Kane is, without a doubt, one of WWE’s biggest success stories, it’s no secret that he could have been even more successful if he had really wanted to. But the man behind the red mask, Glenn Jacobs, is well-renowned for being one of the company’s most selfless athletes. And if you need proof, all you need to do is look at his major championship wins.

In the past 20 years, Kane has only won a major championship twice (three times if WWE still counted the ECW Championship as a World Title). In 1998, he defeated Stone Cold Steve Austin to win the WWE Championship, but lost it the following night. This ended Kane’s initial monster run and was only the beginning of the Big Red Machine’s selfless attitude which saw him doing what was best for the company instead of what was best for him.

His loyalty to the WWE was eventually rewarded in 2010 when he won the World Heavyweight Championship and reigned over SmackDown for five months.

But the years that followed would see him putting countless other stars over at his expense once again – so it’s safe to say that the Big Red Machine deserves another reward. And that may have come in the form of his final main event match.

We don’t know when or how the Big Red Monster will hang up his mask, but we do know that Jacobs may end up becoming Mayor of Knox County next year. Thus, it’s quite possible that Kane may be taking part in his final WWE storyline. Ever since his surprising return, the Devil’s Favorite Demon has been featured in the main event storyline with Braun Strowman – a rivalry which has reignited his monstrous ways.

So, it’s clear that Kane is getting pushed heavily by WWE. And if this truly is his last run with the company, he definitely deserves to be featured in the Championship bout at the Royal Rumble. It would not only be a reward for his selfless acts over the years, but it would also allow him to possibly end his career main-eventing one of WWE’s “Big Four” PPVs – an honor that he undoubtedly deserves.

Furthermore, there is a strong possibility that Kane will be the one who ends up taking the pinfall in the match. And if this was indeed the case, it would only further highlights Glenn Jacobs’ selflessness – not only would taking the pinfall protect newbie monster Strowman from a loss, it would also put over the individual who defeats him, allowing them to add Kane to their list of conquests (a feat that neither Strowman nor Lesnar have accomplished yet).

In conclusion: Yes, Kane is main-eventing a WWE PPV in 2018 and whatever happens, he thoroughly deserves to be there. The Big Red Machine has entertained us all for over twenty years as he dominated everyone who got in his way. But he never failed to make us believe in some of the company’s youngest stars, and was willing to lose in order to put them over – and this could very well be his purpose once again in the Universal Championship match at the Royal Rumble.

Moreover, after two decades of selfless service to the WWE, it’s safe to say that Kane is more than deserving of a spot in the battle for RAW’s premier championship. And if this truly is his last run as an active competitor, I couldn’t think of a better way to go out than going to war with his fellow monsters.
