As you’re probably aware by now, WWE Superstars John Cena and Nikki Bella have called off their engagement for the second time, and are no longer together.
The pro wrestling power couple has been surprisingly candid with members of the media since their unfortunate split, with Nikki’s twin sister Brie even claiming they shared several real-life conversations while shooting for Total Divas and Total Bellas that she wouldn’t be comfortable having in front of cameras. The two released a public statement shortly after their separation stating that they “continue to have a great deal of love and respect for one another,” but that doesn’t necessarily making dealing with the circumstances any easier.
Access caught up with the 16-time world champion recently at CinemaCon in Las Vegas to ask Cena how he was dealing with the breakup. The simple answer? “I’m not doing well,” says the part-time wrestler, part-time pop culture mega star.
John continued, saying that despite everything he still loves Nicole, and it clearly pains him that the two are not together.
“On many occasions, living your life in the public eye, you have to take the good with the bad. Thing thing about doing these [interviews]is, everybody’s like ‘oh man, life’s great, you’re doing all this stuff.’ Everybody has problems. I love her and I miss her, and that’s that.”
You can see the brief red carpet interview below. Interestingly, it looks like whoever was running the media scrum actually tried to tell the interviewer they wouldn’t be discussing Cena’s breakup, but the champ told her to “fire away” anyways.
